    Monday 9:15am to 10:00am
The State if Authentication and its Impact on IDM
    Speaker: Jim Reno, CTO, Arcot

In this session, industry expert Jim Reno will provide an introduction to the basics of online authentication, and an overview of the current state of the art for authentication technologies. What are the factors you need to consider when implementing an authentication technology? What technologies are available, and how do they compare with each other? How does authentication relate to identity management in general, and to federation and single-sign-on systems?  How can authentication be provided as a cloud service, and how does it relate to your in-house systems? This session will delve into the answers to these questions and more.

    Monday 10:00am to 10:45am
    Authentication Case Study
    Speaker: Naomi Shibata, MLS Listings

Relying on username/password for authentication is no longer sufficient to comply with regulations and internal policies. The drive to compliance creates potentially conflicting demands on IT staff such as increasing security while reducing complexity. MLSListings Inc., a Silicon Valley-based regional real estate Multiple Listing Service, faced a wide range of options for adding stronger authentication. This session will discuss how MLSListings evaluated, selected, and implemented "Authentication-as-as-Service" to increase authentication security for their nearly 19,000 subscribers. MLSListings has been using Arcot A-OK On-Demand multi-factor authentication service since October of 2008.  They began using the ArcotID secure software credential to provide two-factor authentication for their agents and brokers.  Since then, they have added additional layers of authentication security including risk-based or adaptive authentication and dynamic OTP via SMS to agent and broker mobile phones.

    Monday 10:45am to 11:30am
The Future of Authentication and Compliance
Our industry analyst and authentication expert will give you a look at the direction in which authentication is evolving, and how that is likely to be affected by upcoming compliance and regulatory requirements. What's next for the technology, what some new technologies or new uses of the technology, what is happening in the regulatory environment, and how will authentication fit into your IDM systems within the next couple of years?
    Speaker: Ed Higgins
    Vice President of Security Solutions
    Digital Discovery Corp.

    Monday 11:30am to 12:30pm

  • Virtual Directory Workshop At Digital ID World
  • Sponsored by Radiant Logic

IT organizations today face a host of pressures, from worsening economic conditions to increasing demand for security, identity, and access management solutions. Mergers and acquisitions, business closures, corporate layoffs, and the outsourcing of jobs are all on the rise; the lines between employees, contractors, partners, vendors, and customers are blurring; and to stay ahead of the curve, IT must keep pace with modern architectures, such as SaaS and the cloud. All this amplifies the need for effective identity and context management.

    Monday 1:30pm to 2:00pm
    Opening Remarks
    Eric Norlin
    Conference Content Co-chair

Directory services have long been heralded as a critical component to any successful identity management reference architecture.  The limitations of existing directory technologies have led architects to questions the value of the directory in this architecture.  This session will explore the value of the directory in its role in enabling the exploration/discovery of context across existing systems.  It will analyze why existing directory implementations have not lived up to the promise of the technology and preview the next generation of directory technologies that will allow directories to deliver on their original promise.

    Monday 2:00pm to 2:30pm
Identity Service Virtualization & Context Management – A Key Trend in IdM
    Speaker: Michel Prompt

In the beginning, IdM in the enterprise was mainly focused on authentication and management of employees. But the true value and highest return of investment for IdM initiatives is in managing digital identities of customers and other large populations. In this domain volume, heterogeneity and distribution make traditional solutions ineffective. From federation to provisioning, to user centric and cloud initiatives, identity and context virtualization is the key to unlocking the advantages of meta-directory and synchronization, without any drawbacks.

  • Opportunists consider Las Vegas an excellent target - not only because of  the vast amount of cash that changes hands, but also the ability to get lost among the 40 million people who visit annually. There are scams that can cost a casino $250,000 in 15 minutes. Other activities, such as unknowingly transacting with an "excluded person," can cost an organization its gaming license. The gaming industry has evolved its policies, processes and systems to respond to these threats. These defensive moves have greatly collapsed the window of time between detection and preemption.

Jeff Jonas, a Las Vegas resident who has architected and built numerous casino systems, will take you behind the scenes in Vegas and describe "trip-wires" that now make it possible to detect the unwanted -- in some cases even before the opportunist arrives at the casino.

  • Speaker:  Philip Windley
  • CTO
  • Kynetx

  • As users on the Web move from site-to-site during their explorations, they invariably end up keeping information about the task in their head. They have to manage the context of the task (or tasks) themselves. The rise of user-centric identity technologies -- especially information cards -- has provided a way for systems to manage this context for you, a process called context automation. Cross-site identity management leads to cross-site applications. These applications can help users manage and significantly enhance their online experience.

Identity Roundhouse For SaaS – How The West Was Won!!
  • Speaker:  Patrick Harding
  • Chief Technology Officer
  • Ping Identity

  • Establishing federated connections that enable single sign-on and identity integration between web applications is now seen as a fundamental requirement by developers and end users alike.  Unfortunately for most organizations every federation connection is viewed as a standalone ‘project' unto itself. This bottleneck  can prevent organizations from maximizing the ROI of their federation investment.

Harding will discuss how  a third-party identity service can streamline an organizations ability to securely enable SSO to all their SaaS applications. He will describe how this is true of user identity originating in the cloud as well as user identity originating from on-premise directories.  Further he will explain how this can be extended to inter-cloud, hybrid cloud and B2B use cases.

Federation Is Dead: Long Live The Federation Fabric
  • Speaker:  Eric Olden

  • Symplified

  • Since its inception, SAML was designed to enable one-to-one federation between organizations, a task it does well. Cloud computing has changed the game and is redefining scalability requirements. This shift is placing unanticipated pressures on SAML's architecture, which was designed for pre-Cloud environments. Cost, complexity and lack of ubiquity has kept SAML from reaching Cloud-scale adoption levels. Meanwhile, security breaches in the Cloud have shown how critical managing access and identity remains for enterprises. This session will discuss the technical and practical limitations of SAML, and propose a new approach that weaves SSO, authorization and provisioning into a Cloud-scale fabric. This new model is designed to help enterprises unify security policy integration, enforcement, and auditing across resources regardless of whether they reside on the network or in the Cloud.

  • Levine, Blaszak, Block & Bootby, LLP

  • Single sign-on is something users love. It eliminates the need to remember multiple passwords, and therefore the temptation to write them down and leave of trail of post-it notes, each representing an open door to your identity management system and your network overall. So single sign-on has fans on both sides of the IT shop, but it takes a lot to get there. There are at least as many legal agreements and procedures as there are technologies and deployment decisions.
